Calligraffiti??? Hmmmmm...

Trying out some "Calligraffiti" Type style with the word COMPOSE to see what I can come up with. Awhile ago I came across an artist named NIELS SHOE MEULMAN and was blown away by what he's been doing at: http://www.calligraffiti.nl/

Anyway, here are some of my first attempts at this style. I rather like it and know this is not as great as Niels, but hey it was my first time.

I've had the opportunity to concept and draw some germ characters over the past few years for various clients. It's been interesting to think I've been asked and paid to draw these creatures, but it's incredibly fun.

Something I'm working on from blue pencil sketch to final. I'm not sure where I'm going with this one, but I like the way it's looking. I like the idea and feel of the piece, so we'll just have to wait to see how it turns out in the end once some color is added to it. Stay tuned.

Pillow Boy Rough Sketches

I've drawn this character a few times, but this time I think something might come out of these two sketches. I'm thinking about a boy who dresses up in a pillow outfit he fashioned himself of course to be the next backyard hero. Currently these two drawings don't show that, but I thought I'd start posting again.

New Sketching Videos

Check out some of my new quick marker sketches I've done so far. I have been working on making these videos, because I find them interesting. I find it interesting to see how other artist go about transforming a clean sheet of paper into something of interest. I wish more artist would film themselves drawing or sketching. Oh, I also think I just like the word "interesting". Anyway, this is the first three so far.

"Reindeer Kid" Project No. 2 - 2007

Here's a look at a cleaned up version of the original pencil sketch. It's a little more clearer as to what's going to happen and gives me a clearer idea as to how I want to put it together. The next steps are to define the size and shape of the piece and get it transfered to final painting surface. For this I will be painting on thick Bristol Paper.

In the end here's how the final painting turned out. It was a fun process and I learned some new things. Hope you enjoyed seeing the progression.

I did this little drawing after being asked repeatedly by my daughter to draw with her. So we had a long piece of scrap paper and began to draw. This is what came of it on my end of the paper. Scanned it in and she took it. Enjoy.

Well, it's been awhile since I've posted anything. I found these images over the weekend of piece I did about 2 years ago that I almost forgot about. It was a comissioned piece I did for a friend on a piece of found rusted metal. It's about 5" x 7" acrylic and ink on found metal.

Some recent drawings from my sketchbook. I love doing these quick sketches and throwing some watercolor over them. It changes them and bring's them more to life. I've always had a fondness for the way rough sketches look versus seeing something that's all clean and perfect. Seeing the thinking behind what the artist was working on always makes the final piece that much more special in the end.

Soon after "The Vessel" piece I worked up this little piece in time for Halloween last year. I think the image tells the story very well about these two little kids experiencing what happens after eating too much candy after trick or treating. Halloween happens to be my favorite time of the year and this is one of my favorite pieces I've done. I hope to do more like this in the near future.

A birthday gift for a friend last Fall 2006. I ended up digitally coloring this piece in photoshop using the original pencil sketch. Printing it out and framing it up. I was very pleased with the end results and so was my friend.

Running Troll

This is a study piece for a story my mother wrote years ago and was never developed. The working title of the story is called "The Fairy & The Troll". I hope to actually finish this project some day. I have a couple other sketches I'll post soon. I'll continue to post more of this project as they get worked on. Stay tuned.

Hey, All...

Welcome to my first blog ever. I hope to use this site as a way for me to get my sketches out there for all to see and get feedback. So... please feel free to leave comments and share your ideas. I truely do hope I can stay on top of it and actually have new updates on a weekly bases. Yeah right, we'll see how that goes.

Also, with this blog I plan to keep a record of new personal projects from sketches to finished pieces. Well, let's get the show on the road. Beep-beep!!!
